When the men of PHB started a bluegrass band in Athens in 2001, they never intended to start a revival-- but Athens was ready for one anyways. Just watch out, though; this ain't your grandpappy's skiffle band. The fellas of PHB are here to ignore the conventions of bluegrass and to add their own personalities to the mix. Perhaps the most innovative and remarkable feature of Packway Handle Band is their staging. Instead of sitting down all across the stage like several musicians who just happen to be playing at the same time, they all circle 'round the central double-microphone setup. The result is spectacular-- they interact with each other all the more, blending their sweet harmonies and fast-picking styles to make the experience simultaneously old-fashioned and fresh. You might find yourself trying to square dance around the lawn, but before that, you'll probably just fall in love with Packway Handle Band. Oh, and they'll do a little downhome dancing for you, too.
